From potted plants, raised beds and in ground gardens, you’ll need an array of tools to get the job done. Here are my top 5 essential gardening tools:
- Gloves
I could be the first to admit that I am guilty of not always wearing gloves. Wearing gloves in the garden is actually important if you want to avoid pricks from thorns, splinters or nasty blisters. There are an assortment of gloves types meant to protect your hands. When selecting garden gloves, consider the fit as the most important. Make sure they fit your hands snugly, so they don’t slip off but also not too tight, you don’t want to be restricted. You want the ability to complete the gardening task. - Trowel
It’s a hand held shovel that you’ll use frequently. From moving soil, digging, removing weeds, mixing fertilizer a trowel will be your right hand man. Garden trowels come in all kinds of shapes and sizes and are typically made out of plastic or wood handles with stainless steel. - Hoe
Cultivating soil helps boost up an existing soil to better prepare for planting. A hoe is a versatile hand tool used to shape soil, remove weeds, clear soil, and harvest root crops. - Hand Rake
Hand Rakes aka your third hand, help save delicate plants from damage. - Shears
There are many different types of gardening shears. Pruning shears are commonly used to prune through branches, stems, and twigs.
